Claire Nicol, MA, RCC
Registered Clinical Counsellor,
Associate, Health and Balance Counselling
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor at the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I am trained in EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as well as Expressive Art Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
Trauma, both great and small, is a common denominator for many mental health challenges. For children especially, experiences can manifest as attention deficits, defiance, depression and/or anxiety. Often the experiences of our childhood create similar obstacles later in life. My own life experience and training, working with children, youth and adults, allow for a safe, non-judgemental space from which to learn strategies to manage life and move forward, with renewed energy and hope. It is a privilege to walk with you.
The good news is that you are already on your way to making a change, towards making a choice. Talking to a counsellor may help you to remember that you do have a choice in how you think and what you believe. Counselling can help you re-think your life experience, to believe what was once unbelievable, to literally change your mind, and your life.
A little more about my educational background: I completed my first Bachelor's degree in English Literature at UBC. closely followed by a Bachelor of Education. I soon realized, however, that I would be better able to provide support to children, youth, and their families as a counsellor, and so pursued my Masters in Counselling Psychology. I now work as a counsellor for the Surrey School District # 36, as well as a counsellor in private practice, where I have an interest in seeing children, youth, and adults with a variety of mental health problems, including anxiety and addictions.
