Health and Balance Counselling - Helping You Find Your Balance

Shannon Emery MA CCC
Counselling Therapist
Founder of Health and Balance Counselling

Shannon founded Health and Balance Counselling in 2011.
She has her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and is registered as a Canadian Clinical Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, http://www.ccacc.ca/  She has 14+ years of direct clinical practice behind her.  In 2001 her passion to help others led her to work as an addictions counsellor for youth and family

In 2007, at the same clinic, she undertook her first great enriching challenge to become the Executive Director.  At that time her focus shifted to adult and couples counselling.  In 2010, Shannon’s heart led her back to working with youth who experience mental health and addiction issues.   Between 2011 and 2016 she expanded her practice to continue working with youth and families, which included individual, couple and group sessions, as well as presenting educational workshops and seminars.

Shannon considers herself a lifelong learner.  She continues to develop her skills and knowledge around therapy through training and clinical supervision. Her philosophy of counselling is looking at our essential areas of life, which include our thinking, emotions, physical state, occupational/educational path, social as well as spiritual well-being.  She feels people are the experts of their own lives.  Through her work, she helps others find health and balance in these areas.  When these goals are achieved it is believed we will experience an overall sense of well-being and satisfaction within our lives.

Shannon practices her own philosophy by being active in her community. She also practices yoga and meditation, art and photography, and is an avid downhill biker, with many other interests in fitness.

Dr. Tomas Jurcik took over as director of Health and Balance Counselling in 2016. At this time, Shannon is winding down her private practice due to other work commitments and is no longer accepting new clients. However, given her wealth of experience, she is still available for professional consultations for clinicians who are interested in developing, expanding and maintaining a successful private practice.
